The founder of Sheerah Generation, Apostle Dr. Sybil Olufunmilayo Akinfenwa, has urged women and young people to discover and maximise their God-given potential, saying they have important roles to play in building safer families and society.
Akinfenwa, who is the wife of the setman of Victorious Christ Chapel, Onireke, Ibadan, spoke ahead of the 2026 Sheerah Generation Celebration, an initiative under Caleb Adeoye Akinfenwa World Outreach Ministries.
The programme, themed “Be Inspired,” will feature a series of outreach activities focused on inspiring women, police families and schoolchildren to pursue outstanding performance and make positive contributions to society.
The outreach, titled “Inspiration for Outstanding Performance,” will begin on Wednesday, October 7, with an engagement with policewomen of the Oyo State Police Command, Ibadan.
Akinfenwa said the programme would continue on Thursday, October 8, with an outreach to police wives of the command, while schoolchildren of Lead British International School, Jericho, Ibadan, would be engaged on Friday, October 9.
The grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at the Victorious Christ Chapel Auditorium, with the programme beginning at 11am.
Explaining the inspiration behind Sheerah Generation, Akinfenwa said she encountered the biblical story of Sherah in 2011 while studying the Bible.
She said Sherah, mentioned in 1 Chronicles 7:24, stood out because she was recorded as having built three cities at a time when women were not commonly recognised for such accomplishments.
According to her, the biblical account inspired the vision of creating a platform that would encourage women to recognise their abilities and use them to make meaningful contributions to their families, workplaces and society.
She said the name Sherah had since become a symbol of purposeful living, creativity, resilience and nation-building.
“Sherah is a woman to be emulated. She is a builder. And I am asking today, your own may not be cities. What are you building? You must build something,” she said.
Akinfenwa stressed that building should not be limited to physical structures, noting that women could build spiritually, emotionally, socially, intellectually and economically.
She urged women to take responsibility for raising children with sound values, saying responsible parenting was essential to addressing some of the challenges confronting society.
“Our society is not safe. How do we get to build a safer society for our nation? The nation is bleeding. How do we actually get up to be who God wants us to be as women?” she asked.
She also encouraged women to contribute to the development of their families and communities through their professions, businesses, innovations and other areas of endeavour.
Akinfenwa said the programme was not exclusively for women, stressing that women influence families and communities and that the development of women therefore has implications for the wider society.
She urged students, police officers, journalists, lawyers and other professionals to identify their abilities and deploy them for positive impact.
“Get up, there’s something in you. Release your God-given potential. Are you a student? Release it. Are you a policewoman? Release it. Are you a journalist? Release it. Are you a lawyer? Release it for the safety of our society,” she said.
According to her, Sheerah Generation has core values centred on strength in capacity, heritage and legacy, excellence in execution, empowered tutelage, resilient vision, architectural wisdom and holistic impact.
She said the initiative, which had previously operated on a smaller scale because of her professional commitments, would from this year be held as a fuller annual programme with increased engagement with the wider society.
Akinfenwa said the objective was to inspire participants to identify their potential, develop their capacities and deploy their gifts towards improving their families, workplaces and communities.
She called on women and young people to embrace the message of the 2026 celebration by becoming builders and agents of positive change wherever they found themselves.
