Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima has clinched the ticket to contest the Borno Central senatorial district election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

Shettima scored 2, 735 votes to defeat Ali Wurge who polled five votes at the just concluded primary elections held at the El-Kaneni Sports Centre, Maiduguri.

Declaring the results yesterday, Chairman of the Election Committee, Ahmad El-Marzuk, said the governor fulfilled the party’s conditions to contest the senatorial polls.

In his acceptance speech, Shettima said: “With my emergence as the senatorial candidate of APC for Borno Central senatorial district, I will do my best at the polls.”

Also, Senator Mohammed Abba Aji has won the Borno Central senatorial ticket by scoring 597 votes at primary election to contest the 2019 election on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s platform.

He defeated Grema Terab and Bukar Kachallah, who polled 242 and four votes respectively.

Chairman of PDP Election Committee, Dr. Andy Aghadi, who declared the election result yesterday in Maiduguri, said having scored the highest number of votes, Abba Aji has been declared winner.

In his acceptance speech, he thanked the security personnel for conducting a peaceful and coordinated election without any hitches.
