The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shiites, has condemned the attack on their members by armed security operatives during the Ashura mourning procession in parts of the country.

It stated that the attack may not promote peaceful coexistence in the country, while accusing some soldiers of attacking what it described as peaceful Ashura mourning processions in Zaria, Kaduna State and Potiskum in Yobe State last week.

The group, therefore, urged the Federal Government to prevail on the security operatives to stop the attacks on their members in the interest of peace in the country. In a statement by its Spokesperson, Ibrahim Musa, it stated that Ashura mourning processions took place recently across the major cities of the world.

“The procession in Zaria was first attacked by a combined team of soldiers, police and armed thugs after a peaceful procession on Thursday morning,” It added.
