Sit-at-Home: Gunmen attack road users in Ebonyi

Police begin manhunt for IPOB members
Gunmen suspected to be Indigenous People of Biafra and the Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) members, who tried to enforce Monday sit-at-home order, yesterday, attacked commuter buses, tricycle and motorcycles at Ezzamgbo junction in Ohaukwu Local Council of Ebonyi State.

The Guardian gathered that the gunmen came in a Siena bus and started attacking road users, burnt three commuter buses, four motorcycles and one tricycle.

Although no life was lost, many people, who scampered for safety, got injured in the ensuing melee.

A source said the incident was horrific as the gunmen were firing gunshots, which caused chaos and threw the entire neighbourhood into panic.

Confirming the incident in a statement, spokesperson for Ebonyi State Police Command, Superintendent of Police (SP), Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said the gunmen suspected to be members of IPOB/ESN attacked road users at Ezzamgbo junction.

She said: “Armed men suspected to be IPOB/ESN members in a sienna car attacked commuter buses, tricycles and motorcycles at Ezzangbo junction.

“They burnt down three commuter buses, four motorcycles and one tricycle, but no life was lost.

“Operatives of the Command have been dispatched to the scene and environs to fish out the perpetrators.

“We believe that before the end of the day, the perpetrators will be apprehended.”
