SMC celebrates Democracy Day in grand style

SMC President, Ayodeji Randle.

Secretariat Membership Club (SMC) has celebrated Democracy Day, June 12, 2026, in grand style. The expansive event ground of SMC, formerly known as Pilots Club, Ikeja, reflected unity, colours, and purpose as family members turned out in large numbers with friends and associates.

Tagged a ‘Day of Patriotism’, the event opened with a display of the national and club flags. It was followed by the rendition of both national and club anthems, setting a patriotic tone for the day.

The President of the club, Otunba Ayodeji Randle, warmly welcomed members and guests.

Thereafter, the club’s General Secretary, Emmanuel Adesuyi, in an interactive session explained the club’s activities as a model for democratic values in action.
Two invited lecturers delivered thought-provoking lectures on Democracy and Club Management Importance.

Their insights connected national democratic principles to how SMC runs as a member-driven institution built on Harmony, Progress and Recreation.
SMC seized the opportunity created by the celebration to honour past Nigerian heroes and departed Club members. Special recognition and prayers were offered for their service to nation and Club by Mr Taiwo Obileye.

In his vote of thanks, the Club Vice President, Yomi Shogbolu, gave the vote of appreciation, thanking patrons, trustees, exco members, speakers, sponsors, members, and guests. The day was rounded off with enough provisions and gifts for everyone who attended — a true reflection of SMC’s spirit of generosity.

“From the anthems to the lectures, from tributes to fellowship, Democracy Day 2026 reinforced why SMC remains a beacon of unity and civic responsibility within and outside Nigeria,” the president said.
