Soldiers parade three suspected kidnappers
Soldiers of the 20 Battalion, located in Serti, the administrative headquarters of Gashaka Local Government Council of Taraba State, yesterday paraded before newsmen in Jalingo, three suspected kidnappers.
Among the suspects is a 37 years old woman, Ruth Okoronkwo, who admitted that she was recruited to kidnapped children for the sum of N50, 000.
Okoronkwo and her cronies were intercepted by the soldiers at one of the military checkpoints along the Wukari-Jalingo highway. Arrested alongside with her are Emmanuel Kelechi and his brother, whom the soldiers said was nabbed at Sabon Gida checkpoint in Gassol local government area of the state while conveying two kidnapped boys, aged 1 and 2 years. A family member of one of the kidnapped infants at Iware was said to have alerted the soldiers of the development who immediately mounted surveillance.
Emmanuel Kelechi said he engaged Okoronkwo to help him kidnap the children for someone who promised to give him N200, 000 for every infant delivered. Kelechi who also said he was going to sell the children to couples looking for children, said as a struggling driver, he was enticed by the thought of the easy money. Handing over the suspects and their victims to the Police, Commanding Officer of 20 Model Battalion, Musa Adamu said they and other sister security agencies would continue to work in harmony to track down hoodlums in the state.
