SON Rewards MATE Energy With MANCAP Award

Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)

IN an energy market where product quality, safety and regulatory compliance are critical to consumer confidence, MATE Energy Industries Limited has received a major endorsement from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), earning the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) award for sustained quality standards under the 10-year category.

The recognition comes as the lubricant blending company strengthens its quality assurance capacity through investments in laboratory equipment, with plans to attract more international manufacturers to Nigeria.
It also places the company’s commitment to product consistency and compliance in focus, while highlighting the growing importance of locally manufactured energy products meeting established national standards.

Speaking shortly after receiving the award, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MATE Energy Industries Limited, Akinrotogun Muhammad-Rabiu, said the company had invested about N478 million in laboratory equipment to ensure its products met national and international standards.
He explained that the company invested close to N100 million in laboratory equipment at the beginning of its operations, following staff training, and committed another N378 million to laboratory equipment as of January 2026.

“As a company, we have invested a lot to ensure that the products and services coming out of the company meet both national and international standards. We started by training our staff. After training the staff, at the beginning of the operation, we spent close to N100 million to buy laboratory equipment to ensure that all products coming out of our company meet both national and international standards.
“As of January this year, we invested an additional N378 million to buy laboratory equipment; so every other test that we could not carry out in the plant is being carried out now. In fact, the laboratory is one of the best in the country for testing lubricants,” Muhammad-Rabiu said.
He further stated that Mate Energy Industries Limited has also increased its laboratory staff strength to meet the requirements of international lubricant manufacturers that engage its services for product blending and quality assurance.

He added that the company’s quality assurance investments had helped it secure business relationships with international companies.
These include HPCL India, a government-owned company in India, and Infinity Lubricant, another international company from India, whose products MATE Energy Industries Limited blends locally.

He said working with such companies required the Nigerian firm to demonstrate its ability to meet stringent quality requirements before receiving approval to blend their products.
Muhammad-Rabiu added that the MANCAP recognition would further strengthen the company’s credibility among existing and prospective international clients.

He further stated that the recognition had generated business opportunities, with prospective customers from the United Arab Emirates, India and Turkey contacting the company about third-party blending services in Nigeria.
Muhammad-Rabiu revealed that MATE Energy plans to attract more international lubricant manufacturers to Nigeria, particularly businesses that currently import finished products branded abroad.

According to him, the company’s business model enables clients to have their products blended and branded locally, while MATE Energy also provides technical support to address product-related challenges. He said the company is also considering investments in raw materials, with plans to bring them directly into its facility.

On consumer confidence, he stated that customer satisfaction remained central to its operations, noting that consumers were more likely to return when products meet their expectations.
“It is not just getting a certificate or getting a product in the market, but you get a product that you are satisfied with. With this, it will give them more confidence,” he said.
