Southeast youth leaders tasks governors on protection of journalists in the zone

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) on Thursday asked governors of the southeast region to ensure protection for Journalists working in their various states.

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) on Thursday asked governors of the southeast region to ensure protection for Journalists working in their various states.

They described as “unacceptable and barbaric” the kidnap of a female Journalist with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN)in Abia state, Chinenye Iwuoha by gunmen.

In a statement by Goodluck Ibem, President general and Kanice Igwe, Secretary, the youth leaders that they would not fold their arms and watch the journalism profession be desecrated by unscrupulous elements.
The statement added: “This barbaric act is totally unacceptable and we condemn it in his entirety.

“We call on the Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede to immediately move into action to ensure the unconditional release of the innocent female journalist who have done nothing wrong to deserve such inhuman treatment and trauma.

“We call for the South-East governors to ensure that journalists operating in their various states are given maximum protection to avoid a reoccurrence of this ugly incident to journalists.

“We call on Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu who is the Chief Security Officer of Abia State to do everything humanly possible to secure the safe and quick release of the kidnapped female journalist.

“We call on the general public to always be their brothers and sisters keeper by giving useful information to security agencies in other for them to serve us better”.
