Stakeholders in Nigeria’s health and pharmaceutical sectors have unveiled the Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi Memorial Trust to sustain healthcare leadership, education and humanitarian services, while paying tribute to the late founder and publisher of PharmaNews, Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi, for his enduring contributions to pharmacy, health journalism and national development.
 
Unveiled at the maiden Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi Memorial Lecture held at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), Idi-Araba, Lagos, the memorial trust will support scholarships, educational initiatives, leadership development, medical outreach, research and community empowerment.
 
Organised by PharmaNews Limited under the theme “Legacy Beyond Life: Leadership, Integrity and the Power of Enduring Impact,” the event drew pharmacists, healthcare professionals, academics, business leaders and family members, with speakers describing the initiative as a vehicle for preserving Atueyi’s vision.

In his welcome address, Executive Director of PharmaNews Limited, Mr Dozie Atueyi, described his late father as more than the founder and publisher of PharmaNews, noting that he devoted over four decades to advancing healthcare, pharmaceutical practice and credible health journalism in Nigeria.
 
According to him, Sir Atueyi championed professional excellence and built a respected platform for dialogue among healthcare stakeholders. He explained that the yearly memorial lecture was instituted to preserve those ideals, encourage conversations on leadership and professional responsibility, and inspire future generations to embrace lives defined by integrity, purpose and service.
 
Chairman of the occasion and former Minister of Health, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, described Sir Atueyi as a pharmacist whose life exemplified diligence, professionalism and integrity. He commended the Atueyi family for sustaining his vision through the memorial lecture and urged participants to emulate the values that shaped his life.

Delivering the keynote address, President of the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy and Chief Executive Officer of Business School Netherlands, Prof. Lere Baale, urged Nigerians to focus on building legacies that would outlive them rather than pursuing success alone.

Baale also called on individuals and organisations to support the newly established Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi Memorial Trust, saying it would preserve the late pharmacist’s vision by funding scholarships, educational initiatives, leadership development, medical outreach and humanitarian programmes.
