Stop flying falsehood on social media, Ebonyi govt warns opposition

The Ebonyi Government has carpeted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its “penchant to propagate falsehood and foment civil strife through social media” in the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Orji Uchenna Orji, in a statement, regretted that instead of “exploring avenues for social harmony and development of the state, the opposition derives pleasure in causing mischief.”

He deplored the attempt by the opposition to “cast aspersion on the quintessential mother and doyen of women integration in the state, Mrs. Rachel Ogonna Umahi, as using the woman’s name to amplify falsehood is both ignoble and repugnant.”

Orji went on: “The attention of Ebonyi State Ministry of Information and State Orientation has been drawn to a vicious, mendacious and faceless post captioned ‘I will not vote my husband in APC’ falsely credited to Her Excellency, wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State and made to trend in social media by political jobbers deployed by the remnants of obscured PDP in the state.

“It is regrettable that PDP has also resorted to writing cheap and derogatory falsehood against Chief (Mrs.) Rachel Ogonna Umahi.

“While we take exception to this cheap and discourteous blackmail, we make bold to state that the governor’s wife is a proud card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with registration number, EB/BZR/11/04202.”

The commissioner maintained that Mrs. Umahi remained “a great pillar of support to the Divine Mandate administration in the state.”
