Following the Supreme Court judgment that restored the leadership of Senator David Mark on Thursday, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has said its immediate focus is now on preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The Chairman-elect of the party in the state, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, who welcomed the verdict, described it as a positive development that has brought clarity to the party’s leadership dispute.
The apex court, in a unanimous decision, set aside an earlier order of the Court of Appeal which had directed parties to maintain the status quo ante bellum. It held that the appellate court acted outside its jurisdiction after dismissing the appeal, describing the directive as unnecessary and improper.
Reacting, Dimkpa said the ruling “represents a significant restoration of legal clarity and due process, reaffirming the principle that judicial actions must remain within the bounds of established jurisdiction.”
The Supreme Court further directed that the substantive issues be remitted to the trial court for proper hearing and determination.
According to Dimkpa, the judgment provides a lawful pathway forward and reinforces confidence in the judicial process, while also underscoring the party’s commitment to internal democracy and the rule of law.
He noted that with the legal position now clarified, the party is intensifying efforts to reposition itself ahead of the next electoral cycle.
“Our immediate priorities include strengthening grassroots structures across the 23 local government areas, wards and polling units; expanding our membership base through ongoing registration and stakeholder engagement; and building a disciplined, law-abiding and issue-driven political movement,” he said.
Dimkpa added that the party would articulate a governance agenda that reflects the aspirations of Rivers people, stressing that the ADC is not merely preparing to participate in the elections but positioning itself as a credible alternative.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to democratic principles, urging members and stakeholders to remain united and focused as efforts continue to build a strong and inclusive platform.
“With unity, discipline and collective resolve, a new and better Rivers State is achievable,” he said.
