Suspected cultist stabs Ondo varsity student to death

A student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, was on Thursday evening stabbed to death by an indigene of the community suspected to by a cultist. The student, whose identity was yet to be ascertained as of press time, was alleged to have been killed over N1,000.

A student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, was on Thursday evening stabbed to death by an indigene of the community suspected to by a cultist. The student, whose identity was yet to be ascertained as of press time, was alleged to have been killed over N1,000.

According to sources within the university community, the incident happened off-campus. One of the sources, who simply gave her name as Tolulope, disclosed that some indigenes of the community were fingered for masterminding the attack on the deceased student.

Following the incident, apprehension gripped most parts of the community as some students mobilised themselves to the house of the suspected killer and set the building ablaze.

The students later took to the streets to protest the incident, but the intervention of the police and school authorities was said to have averted a crisis between the students and the indigenes.

Also, some members of the staff of the institution and students who were on campus when the crisis broke out could not leave the school premises due to the situation.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident. She said the student was confirmed dead at the hospital where he was rushed.

The PPRO said: “An indigene had an issue with a student, and one thing led to another, and he stabbed the student, which resulted in the student’s death.

“Students took to the street to protest. The body was taken to the morgue by the police, and while it was there, some people mobilized to the suspect’s mother’s house to set it ablaze.

“The police and the people are there to put out the fire. I believe supporting divisions, Ikare and Iwaro Area Command will join Akungba personnel to restore peace and normalcy.”
