• Police arrest man over mum’s death

Suspected herdsmen yesterday killed Pa Moses Atanda Omifenwa, a farmer and father of an Abeokuta, Ogun State-based journalist, Jide Omifenwa, inside his farm settlement at Ado-odo in Ado-odo/Ota Local Council of the state.

Jide, who is the correspondent of Global News magazine, broke the news yesterday in Abeokuta.

He disclosed that his 76-year-old father was killed around 1:30 p.m. in his farm.

“But, after some minutes we observed that he was yet to return. We immediately went into the farm only to meet his lifeless body on the ground. I quickly ran to the police station and the police came and said we should get a medical personnel to examine him,” Omifenwa said.

Also yesterday, the police command arrested a 33-year-old man, Segun Ogunlusi, for allegedly killing his biological mother in Ogijo, Sagamu area of the state.

According to its spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was apprehended following a report from his younger sister, Yetunde, who reported the disappearance of their mother.

She told the police that she left her mother, 60-year-old Mrs. Abimbola Ogunlusi at home while going to work on Tuesday, December 13 “but on getting back home at about 7:15 p.m., I could not find my mother.”

On enquiry, she added that Segun gave her an unsatisfactory response.

Consequently, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ogijo Division, Ahmed Tijani led a team of officers to the residence where the suspect was arrested.

According to the force’s image-maker, the suspect stabbed his mother to death “and hurriedly buried her in a septic tank very close to the house.”

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has order the transfer of the case to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for a discrete investigation.
