Residents of Taraba State, especially those living in Jalingo, the state capital, have praised the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for noticeable improvements in power supply and customer relations throughout the state.
The residents, who spoke with The Guardian on Friday, said the era of electricity workers allegedly harassing and intimidating consumers appears to be fading since the emergence of YEDC’s current leadership in the state.
Many of them noted that electricity supply has become more stable in several parts of Jalingo, especially in areas classified under Band A, and urged the company to maintain the momentum.
One of the residents, Moses Adamu, expressed satisfaction with the current power situation in his area, describing the improvement as commendable.
“Frankly speaking, there is improvement in power supply in my area and most parts of our state capital. I commend the management of YEDC for such a great achievement,” Adamu said.
Adamu also praised the company for improving its relationship with customers, noting that the staff’s approach toward electricity consumers has changed significantly.
“I noticed that there is a great improvement in the way the staff of the company relate with consumers. Unlike in the past, where they went about intimidating and harassing consumers, the reverse is now the case,” he added.
While acknowledging the progress recorded so far, residents also appealed for more support to further strengthen electricity distribution in the state.
They noted that although power supply has improved, several communities are still in dire need of transformers and other essential infrastructure.
Some residents, therefore, called on the Taraba State government to collaborate more closely with YEDC, particularly by assisting the company with transformers and other logistics to enhance power distribution.
According to them, similar partnerships between electricity distribution companies and state governments in other regions have helped stabilise power supply, a model they believe Taraba State could adopt to sustain and expand the achievements already made.
