The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has successfully upgraded two transformers for the Benin Transmission Substation and Ihovbor Work Centre.

Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’S General Manager Public Affairs said this in a statement in Abuja.

Mbah said that at the 132 Kilo Volt (kV) Benin Transmission Substation, TCN completed and energised a new 100 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) 132/33kV power transformer on Feb. 3

According to her, another 100 MVA power transformer has also been energised at the Ihovbor Work Centre Jan 29.

”The energised transformer at Ihovbor work centre will provide increased bulk power supply to Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) for onward supply to Egba, Oluku, Ihovbor and its environs.

”The newly energised 100MVA transformer at Benin Transmission Substation will increase the substation’s capacity from 240MVA to 300MVA,” she said.

Mbah said that before the recent upgrade, the Benin Substation had two 60MVA, one 80 MVA, and one 40MVA 132 /33kV Mobitra transformer which was upgraded to 100MVA power transformer.

She said that before now, Ihovbor had 2x60MVA of which one had been upgraded to 100MVA capacity, making it rise from 120MVA to 160MVA.

She said that with the recent upgrade, TCN had increased its capacity to wheel more bulk power to Benin DisCo for onward evacuation to its customers.

”The projects are part of the collaborative efforts of the World Bank and TCN Management to boost bulk power transmission nationwide, ” she said.
