Three years after she was lured into an uncompleted building in Jama’are Local Government area of Bauchi and boys removed her vagina leaving her in a pool of blood, the State High Court has sentenced the two perpetrators to 35 years in imprisonment.
In January 2021, Bauchi State Police Command had arrested Adamu AbdulRauf and Abdulkadir Wada in connection with the crime and charged them to court for prosecution for causing grievous hurt and attempting to commit culpable homicide on the girl, Hauwa’u Ya’u.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Rabi Umar convicted and sentenced Abdulra’uf (20 years) and Wada (21 years) after they both pleaded guilty to the crime.
In his argument, the prosecuting lawyer, Mr. Sabiu Gumba told the court that the two defendants were arraigned on August 17, 2021 on a three counts charge of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and attempting to commit culpable homicide.
Gumba presented four witnesses including the father of the victim while the defendants testified for themselves but didn’t call additional witnesses.
Gumba tendered two knives used while committing the crime, a bottle containing the private part of the girl and a powder.
The convicts had committed the crime in December, 2020 in Jama’are. Hauwa, who was six years old at the time, fainted before they used knives to cut off her private part for ritual purposes.
The Guardian had reported that the Governor, Bala Mohammed promised her a scholarship and to rename a structure at the Specialist Hospital after her and handle the payment of the plastic surgery.
