Also, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of Professor Akin Mabogunje and  former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun.

The two prominent Nigerians died on Thursday. The late Mabogunje was Nigeria’s first Professor of Geography and a world-renowned Urban Planner while Tafa Balogun served as Nigeria’s 11th Inspector-General of Police (IGP) from 2002 to2005.

Tinubu extolled their services to the country and contributions to national development, especially in areas of urban planning, sustainable development and national security, where Mabogunje and Balogun performed excellently.

The condolence message , yesterday, read: “Prof. Mabogunje passed on at an advanced age of 90. He was an erudite scholar and urban planner. His record of service to the old Western Region, Nigeria and Lagos will stand in his eternal memory.

“Mr. Tafa Balogun as the Inspector-General of Police contributed significantly to national security and worked with commitment to keep our country safe. These two eminent citizens, who finished their assignments here on earth, will be remembered for their service to our great country.

“As we mourn their exit, I extend my condolences to the families, friends and associates they left behind and I pray that God will comfort them all. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
