Tinubu, governors urged to reduce cost of governance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The Supreme Head of Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, His Most Eminence, Prophet Emmanuel Alogbo, has implored President Bola Tinubu, state governors as well as local council chairmen to review down the cost of governance just as public resources must be redirected toward infrastructure, education, social and health investment and economic prosperity.

Speaking, on Thursday, during the opening ceremony of the 2026 annual general conference of The Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, in Lagos, themed Cherubim and Seraphim Church -An unhidden city, Alogbo maintained that true development cannot thrive where corruption is tolerated, governance is expensive and accountability is weak.

“As a church we cannot be silent observers. We must continue to pray fervently for our leaders while also speaking truth with courage, moderation and love. Our prayers for Nigeria must be matched with advocacy for justice, equity, accountability and national cohesion. Nigeria remains a secular state and her unity depends on fairness, inclusion and respect for diversity. Any action that threatens this balance must be addressed with wisdom and restraint in the interest of peace and national stability.

“We will continue to urge government at all levels to pursue policies that strengthen true federalism, economic prosperity and social justice so that Nigeria can move forward as one indivisible nation.”

Alogbo also stated that the church must stand as a moral compass, reminding the nation that prosperity is not only measured in wealth, but in justice, fairness and compassion for the poor, in realisation that the work of nation building is not solely dependent on the government but a collective contribution.

Commenting specifically about the conference, he said: “As we deliberate during this conference, may wisdom guide out decisions, unity strengthen our resolve and peace govern our interactions.

“As we step into the next century of our journey as a church, we are called to deepen our unity,. strengthen our witness and shine forth as a beacon of hope and holiness in Nigeria and beyond.”

Alogbo said he looked forward to a service where all Cherubim and Seraphim will worship under one roof and a common faith devoid of rancour or suspicion.

In his goodwill message, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who commended the church and his leadership for their enduring commitment to prayer, holiness, moral discipline, and service to humanity, noted that over the years, the Cherubim and Seraphim Church has remained a pillar of spiritual strength, social responsibility, and national unity, contributing significantly to moral guidance, peaceful coexistence, and community development in the nation.

The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, added: “Across Nigeria, and indeed Lagos State, we are reminded daily that sustainable progress must be built on strong values, integrity, compassion, and faith.

“In the face of social, economic, and moral challenges, the role of the Church as a moral compass and agent of hope cannot be overstated. Lagos State is proud to host this important gathering. As a cosmopolitan, multi-faith state, we continue to uphold religious tolerance, harmony, and mutual respect. Faith-based organizations remain indispensable partners in governance, social stability, and grassroots development.

“Our administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda continues to guide our development efforts across key pillars. Transportation and Traffic Management, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism, and Security and Governance. Youth development gender equality and inclusivity is our deliberate and intentional focus.

“Our policies are about you for your good and the better living of all of us. May the Lord continually bless keep and empower us with wisdom and the ability to bring the dividend of good governance to each and every one of you in Jesus name.”

Sanwo-Olu further said that his administration recognizes and deeply appreciate the complementary and indispensable role of the Church in advancing positive objectives, particularly in nurturing responsible youth, promoting family values, supporting education, and caring for the vulnerable in communities.

“The partnership between government and the Church remains vital to building a just, inclusive, prosperous and resilient society. Let me assure you that our administration remains fully committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and enabling environment for religious activities to thrive for we know that except the Lord builds the house the laborers labour in vain except the Lord watches over the city of Lagos the watchman stays awake in vain,” he said.
