President Bola Tinubu.

President Bola Tinubu will, tomorrow, depart Abuja for N’Djamena, the Republic of Chad, to attend the inauguration of President Mahamat Déby.

The inauguration of President Déby follows his declaration as the winner of the country’s presidential election earlier this month and subsequent affirmation by the Constitutional Court of Chad.

Tinubu will be accompanied on the trip by senior government officials and will return after the ceremony.

The presidential elections were held in Chad on 6 May 2024. The elections followed a constitutional referendum held on 17 December 2023, following the death of President Idriss Deby in 2021.

Incumbent transitional president Mahamat Deby, the son of Idriss Déby, ran as the candidate of the Patriotic Salvation Movement, winning the election and leading to another extension of 34 years of rule by the Déby family.
