The Middle Belt region’s quest to produce the country’s next president got a boost, at the weekend, when the paramount ruler of Tiv kingdom, HRM (Prof.) James Ayatse, anointed Moses Ayom for the 2023 presidential election.

The Tor Tiv, who is also the Chairman of Benue Traditional Council, and the Council of First-Class Chiefs in Tivland, gave their blessings to the All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, who was presented to them in Gboko, Benue State, by the Council of Imams and Bishops.

In his remarks, the Tor Tiv expressed happiness about the steps so far taken by Ayom towards his presidential ambition, and promised to support him as much as permissible under the ambit of the law.

Ayom, who is the first member of APC to officially declare for the presidency ahead of the 2023 general election, unveiled his plans on January 1, 2022, after he received support from Interfaith clerics in the middle Middle Belt, including the council of Imams and Bishops.

Presenting the aspirant to the monarch and his council, the clerics extolled Ayom as a youthful, industrious and de-tribalised Nigerian, who has proven his mettle in business and nation building efforts.

Making a case for the Middle Belt region to produce the next President of Nigeria, they identified the region as the only one that has not produced a democratic president or vice president.

The Muslim clerics appealed to other Muslim aspirants in the race to respect the culture of rotational the presidency between Christians and Muslims and allow a Christian to emerge after President Muhammadu Buhari.

They stressed the need to reverse the negative trends in Nigeria’s socio-economic development, noting that the country has all the natural and human resources to guarantee good life for every Nigerian, lead Africa and play big in league of advanced world economies.

Ayom, on his part, briefed the traditional rulers on his experience, which gave him international recognition.

He cited how his trip with Buhari to China, alongside other key industrialists, prompted a landmark partnership between his company, Granite and Marble Limited, and SBM China Limited with massive potential to transform Nigeria’s mining sector was initiated.
