FOLLOWING the derailment incident involving a Kaduna-bound passenger train with 618 passengers on board, which occurred at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations along the Abuja-Kaduna Rail Corridor, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed a tactical team for an on-the-spot assessment.
Commandant General of the Corps, Professor Ahmed Audi, who deployed the team from the agency’s headquarters in Abuja yesterday, said the NSCDC is dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) and will follow up on the incident.
Audi said, “The Corps is fully committed to ensuring the protection of all the Nation’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, as well as civilian protection through rescue operations during emergencies and disaster management.”
The tactical team, according to him, will conduct an on-the-spot assessment with other key security stakeholders.
He emphasized the need for measures that would ensure the rail corridor remains safe and accident-free.
Commending the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, for his leadership and response to the incident, the NSCDC boss assured that his agency would take action against any individuals found sabotaging railway installations.
“We are prepared to bring to book anyone caught sabotaging the Railway Installations,” he warned in a statement by the NSCDC national spokesman, Afolabi Babawale.
