Tribunal grants APC leave to inspect Ekiti guber election materials
The Ekiti State Election Petition Tribunal, yesterday, granted leave to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to inspect the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) documents and other forms used for the conduct of June 18, 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State.
This followed a motion ex-parte brought by counsel to APC, Kabir Akingbolu, who held brief for Chief Akin Olujimi (SAN).
In his ruling, Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Wilfred I. Kpochi, while granting the ex-parte motion, said it is germane for the applicant to defend the petition.
He also granted the oral application filed by Akingbolu.
The tribunal urged the INEC to grant APC access to inspect all documents and materials used for the conduct of the Ekiti State governorship election on June 18.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Chief Segun Oni, who had taken the APC candidate, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who was declared the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election to the tribunal, submitted to the tribunal 159-page petition document to challenge the legitimacy of the winner.
Oyebanji was declared winner of the election by INEC after polling 187,057 votes against Oni who scored 82,209 votes.
