There is anxiety among supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Edo election petition tribunal in Abuja is set to declare its verdict.

Our correspondent observed heavy security presence with police personnel across major streets to avert any breakdown of law and order in view of the tense situation over the election petition tribunal outcome.

Some of the major areas cordoned off include the Benin Sapele Road leading to the Benin High Court and Kingsquare popularly called Ring Road, which leads to the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) was also mounted by security agencies.

Ahead of the judgment t to be delivered by the Election Petition Tribunal later today, some residents are apprehensive and have left their homes to avoid being trapped by protesters should there be any over the verdict.

PDP candidate in the September 21 2024 election, Asuen Ighodalo, is challenging the election results that declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC as the winner of the election.

On Tuesday, a purported copy of the judgment flooded social media, causing anxiety among residents.

While the judgment will not be delivered in Benin City, citizens are worried about why the roads leading to the Benin High Court were blocked amid heavy security presence.

Though there are concerns that those unsatisfied with the outcome may take to the street, some political analysts suggest that the court facility could be attacked by supporters of either political party.
