Tricycle operators engage in free for all in court
There was pandemonium at the National Industrial Court (NIC), Lagos yesterday when the tricycle operators who instituted suit before the court started fighting.
It was gathered that what transpired in the court room did not go down well with the claimants. As the defendants were stepping out of the court gate, they laid ambush on the people, throwing stones. Some were stabbed with broken bottles, while others engaged in fistfight.
It was the swift intervention of the court Chief Security Officer that prevented them from entering the court premises again, while they were shouting: “If they born you well, come out of the gate.”
The tricyclists later vandalised some cars within and around the court premises. One of the injured persons was rescued from the mob and brought into the court in his pool of blood with torn clothes before he was taken to a nearby hospital.
It was gathered the tricycle operators instituted the suit against the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Minister for Labour and Employment, Registrar of Trade Unions, Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, Comrade Augustine Apeh, Attorney General of Lagos State, Commissioner for Transport, Lagos State as first to eight defendant respectively.
They want the court in the suit delineated NICN/LA/504/2016 to nullify the registration of the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria. The claimant also wants court to order (seventh and eight defendant), Attorney General of Lagos State and Commissioner for Transport, Lagos State to stop recognizing the association.
The claimant is Incorporated Trustees of Tricycle Owners & Operators Association of Nigeria with its officers, Comrade Joseph Odusanya, Alhaji Ganiyu Dauda and Alhaji Shakirudeen Arowoye as first to the fourth claimant.
