The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has charged women to be prepared and bold for leadership position. President of TUC, Festus Osifo, gave the charge at the TUC Women Commission yearly seminar in Lagos State with the theme, “Promoting Women’s Social, Political and Economic Rights: The Trade Union approach.”

He urged women to acquire the right knowledge and the right skills so that when any opportunity comes, they could flow in easily.

“Women should prepare and get ready because when the opportunity comes, it will only beacon on those that are ready and prepared to take it. Let our women step out beyond the shackles of their homes and be prepared to step forth into the leadership position.

“We must learn how to co-exist and cohabit. There shouldn’t be a strong boundary between men and women. We should be able to support and help ourselves. You should be able to assist another person whose right is being trampled on.”

Meanwhile, the National Chairperson of TUC Women Commission, Hafsat Shaibu, lamented that women always remain at the back seat of anything considering the fact that they constitute a good percentage of the labour force.

Also, Lagos State governor’s wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, urged the women to use their voices constructively to engage the system and demand the rights.
