Two suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the police in Lagos, for allegedly abducting a mother and her daughter at Ajah area of the state. The suspects are Sunday Igwe, 28 and Chukwuemeka Bright, aged 23.

According to Lagos State police boss, Imohimi Edgal, the suspects were arrested over the alleged kidnapping of one Mildred Mbajiorgu and her daughter last week. The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) while escaping with their victims.

The police boss disclosed that the suspects had kidnapped their victims at the front of Peace Estate, Majok area of Abijo Elemoro on Lekki-Epe expressway in Ajah on January 10 around 1000p.m. adding that the suspects are members of a deadly notorious kidnapping syndicate.

On the fateful day, they had blocked a Toyota Camry car in which their victims were travelling in, with their operational blue coloured-Volkswagen car marked KRD 845EC into which they dragged both mother and daughter and zoomed towards Epe area.

He said: “Luck however ran against them when a good Samaritan gave the fleeing kidnappers a hot chase with his own vehicle and hit the Golf car from behind in a way that the Golf car driver lost control resulting in a serous accident and all the occupants and the victims sustained various degree of injuries. They were rushed to hospital for treatment, while the two gang members were arrested though others escaped.”

Edgal said the suspects have confessed to be members of the deadly kidnapping gang that has been terrorizing Ajah, Lekki, Ikorodu. Sagamu and Elemoro areas of the state.

The police boss said that one of the suspects, Sunday Igwe, also confessed that the gang had on October 13, 2017 kidnapped a foreigner with a lady friend, kept them for three days before he was released after ransom was paid in which he benefitted N250,000 from the operation.

Igwe said he joined the kidnapping gang in order to raise money to set up business at Alaba International market. He said: “We had been in the community trailing her for about five hours. Immediately we sighted her, we followed her and when she was about to make a U-turn, we pounced on her and dragged her out of her car into our own and zoom off.”

One of the suspects, Bright, said they were arrested by some Good Samaritan in traffic, when they were trying to escape. He said: “Immediately we abducted the woman, we were taking her into the creeks, where our other gangs would meet us and decide the amount of ransom we are going to collect.

“I was in Sagamu doing my charcoal business when a friend came to invite me to a kidnapping deal, I regret joining the gang.”

Edgal, however said, the suspects would be charged to court.
