
Two suspected hoodlums were reportedly killed and another one injured, following a clash between two rival cultic groups in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
The incident, according to eyewitnesses, started yesterday at Asoje, Balogun Agoro area in Osogbo. The Guardian gathered that suspected cultists had engaged in deadly clashes among themselves, creating tension in the area as residents and passersby fled when the hoodlums started using guns and other dangerous weapons.
In a bid to restore order and peace in the area, some operatives of Amotekun in the state arrived the scene of the clash.
It was learnt that some of the residents of the area accused the Amotekun operatives of causing the death of the two persons.
Some aggrieved youths in the area were said to have taken the bodies of the deceased to the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, before they were evacuated by the police.
MEANWHILE, the Field Commandant of Osun Amotekun, Amitolu Shittu, confirmed the incident but denied that his men shot at the hoodlums.
Shittu said the Amotekun operatives at the scene only made an arrest. He said: “After the arrest of one of the suspected hoodlums, they (suspected cultists) bombarded my house and vandalised it, including the cars parked in the premises.
“One Lekan led the hoodlums numbering about 30 to my house to vandalise the property. They used axes on my gates, shattered glasses and destroyed some vehicles.”
