The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Friday inaugurated digital and smart classrooms worth N250 million.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the five classrooms included an operating theatre.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Medical Director of the tertiary health institution, Prof. Temitope Alonge, said the project was sponsored by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC).

He added that the initiative was facilitated by Hon. Saheed Fijabi, the Chairman of the Committee on Communication in the House of Representatives.

Alonge said the classrooms contained no fewer than 50 computers, adding that this facilitated the institution’s movement from analogue to digital system.

The digital classroom will enable us teach 200 students in different centres of the institute at the same time, do tele-conferences, carry on live procedures at the theatre and relate it to students who are in the classrooms.

Experts outside Ibadan, who have the same facility, can now teach our students.

Here, we can have training for nurses, doctors; through this all staff can communicate with one another.

With it also, we can share medical information with experts in seven other institutions we work with.

It saves a lot of manpower; we also have the capacity of connecting University of Ibadan.

We appreciate the NCC and the lawmaker for making us partakers in this project,” Alonge said.

Fijabi, representing Ibadan South West Federal Constituency, said the gesture was his contribution to the development of Ibadan, UCH and the country at large.

He promised that he would continue to support the institution to promote the welfare of the people.

I am happy to assist the people of Oyo State in this way because it is where I come from; it’s what we ought to do for the development of the nation.

I will continue to support UCH because our people will benefit from it,’’ Fijabi said.
