Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has lost his bid to represent the people of Enugu North at the National Assembly.

Ugwuanyi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contested the seat against 10 others from different political parties.

Results of the senatorial election, declared yesterday, showed that Okey Ezea of the Labour Party (LP) defeated Ugwuanyi.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Chukwuemeka Ubaka, who announced result of the election, said Ezea polled 104, 492 votes to beat Ugwuanyi, who garnered 46, 948 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Eze Simon, came third with 6,816 votes, among others. The result sheet also showed that the governor was beaten in his Udenu Council.

Also, LP candidate for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Chidi Obetta, has been returned as winner of Saturday’s National Assembly election.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Romanus Eze, who declared the results, said Obetta scored a total of 50,881 votes to defeat his closest rival, Vita Abba of the PDP, who polled 19, 347 votes.

SIMILARLY, member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Offor Chukwuegbo, has lost his re-election bid.

LP candidate, Chima Sam Atu, defeated Offor with a wide margin in the election, held at the weekend.

Returning Officer, Evelyn Ezepue, declared Atu winner of the election, saying he secured a total of 65,247 to defeat his closest opponents, Nnonso Nnamani of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Offor Chukwuegbo of the PDP.

Atu was, therefore, returned elected after satisfying all requirements of the law.

Details of the results showed that Chukwuegbo polled a total of 7,617, while Nnamani scored a total of 9,215. The APC candidate, Juliet Egbo, scored 2,394 votes.

ALSO, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) House of Representatives candidate for Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Enugu State, Wilfred Okeke, has sent congratulatory message to Sunday Umeha of LP.

The LP candidate was declared winner of the House of Representatives election on Saturday, beating Festus Uzor, the Chief of Staff to the state governor, and APGA candidate.

Okeke accepted outcome of the election and expressed hope that APGA and LP could work together to form a unity government in the state.

Okeke, therefore, urged his supporters to remain calm, as something positive would be worked out between the two parties.
