Ukranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Valerii Aleksandruk

Ukranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Valerii Aleksandruk, has reassured his host government that the existing ties between the two nations would not be strained following the emergence of a new government in his home country.

Aleksandruk gave the reassurance yesterday while reacting to the outcome of the just concluded presidential election in the European country.

Incumbent President Peter Poroshenko lost heavily to a 41 year-old political neophyte and comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in the run-off.

According to the envoy, the election had been adjudged fair and transparent in line with all democratic standards and the new administration takes office early June.
