Umahi unveils Ebonyi command of Ebubeagu security outfit
Ebonyi State Governor, David Nweze Umahi, has inaugurated the Ebonyi State Command of the Ebubeagu Security outfit at the Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki.
Umahi, who is also Chairman of, South-East Governors Forum, said the inauguration was to further strengthen the legal backing for the security outfit in complementing the police and other security agencies to combat insecurity in the state.
While commending the handlers for a good job, Umahi noted that the experience is encouraging, adding that he was inspired and challenged to extend the outfit to provide employment for the people and make it more pensionable.
“Therefore, in 2022, we will make the outfit employable, the function of Ebubeagu is to assist the police in carrying out activities that would guarantee law and order in the state. But this is not alternate police, there should be no altercations, we will not fight the police and we will not disobey the police.
“It is also not politically motivated. Those who have been sponsoring banditry and insecurity in the state and who are against the Ebubeagu should take their case to court as this outfit will not be disbanded,” he said.
Umahi, who also cautioned members of the security outfit against overzealousness, declared that it has a Provost Marshall, who would be disposed to receiving reports of infractions to ensure maximum confidence of the people on the outfit.
“Governors of the South East region have extended olive branch to our youths, who have been brainwashed and are in the bushes, we are committed to reintegrating them and making them useful members of society.”
He stressed that the mandate of Ebubeagu would not be to fight any legal or illegal group but to assist the police to route out criminal elements and protect the life and property of Ebonyi people.
He also pointed out that the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other leaders of the South East region were on course to find a political solution to the challenges of the zone.
Umahi disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari would visit the state early next year, assuring that Ebonyi people would roll out the drums to give the President a rousing welcome.
