Unaccessed UBE matching grants hit ₦135b as 34 states shun fund

The Universal Basic Education (UBE) matching grants have hit N29billion as 34 states are yet to access the 2024 funds.
The Universal Basic Education (UBE) matching grants have reached N135 billion, with 34 states yet to access the 2024 funds.
Notably, only two states have accessed this year’s funds.
The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during an oversight visit by the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education.
According to Dr. Bobboyi, only Katsina and Kaduna states have accessed the first and second quarter 2024 matching grants.
