
This appeal was made at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA:2024) and conveyed through a statement by Mrs. Grace Njoku, Head of Information and Public Relations.
Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that without updating the action plan to address the current challenges faced by women, particularly in Africa, meaningful progress would remain elusive.
“We need to start achieving tangible results. To do this, we must revise the action plan so it reflects current realities and prioritizes our specific needs and benefits.

“This is especially crucial in areas such as empowerment and skill acquisition, which can enhance women’s economic status and societal relevance.”

The Minister expressed optimism that championing a revised global action plan would inspire collective action and collaboration among nations, leading to tangible progress in gender equality.

“As we move forward, we require a boost in the form of empowerment through funds to support small-scale ventures, as well as equipment for skill acquisition,” she said.
