Usani’s suspension not acceptable, factional APC Campaign DG insists
The Campaign Organisation of a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the purported suspension of Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani.
Director General of the Campaign Organisation, Ekpeyong Cobham, stated this yesterday at a media briefing in Calabar, noting that Usani has not received any notification from any organ of the party regarding any suspension.
There were reports in the national dailies and online publications that the APC National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended Usani and governors of Ogun and Imo states, Ibikunle Amosun and Rochas Okorocha, over anti-party activities.
Cobham stated that the suspension was not acceptable, stressing that Usani’s loyalty has made him the symbol of APC in Cross River State.
He said: “We have learnt from the news media that the gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Cross River State, Usani Uguru Usani, has been suspended by the party.
“Usani has not received any notification from any organ of the party regarding the suspension. The party’s constitution is clear on suspension, as it clearly cites circumstances and procedures to follow to effect suspension.
“If there is any suspension, Usani’s attention should be drawn to it. If such circumstances do not exist nor procedures taken in line with the party’s extant laws, then a suspension does not exist.”
He noted that Usani does not deserve such treatment because of his loyalty to the party, which made him to poll 722 votes against PDP’s two votes, adding: He secured over 4,000 votes for APC as against PDP’s 1,000 votes in his Abanankpai Council Ward in the presidential and National Assembly elections.
“To accuse such a man of anti-party activities and claim to suspend him from the party he has helped to build is a joke taken too far and is unacceptable.”
