Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodimma, has challenged transport operators to pass the savings from Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to commuters by reducing fares, saying the benefits of President Bola Tinubu’s reforms must be felt directly by Nigerians.
Uzodimma said it would be unfair for transport operators to enjoy lower operating costs from CNG without reflecting the savings in the fares charged to passengers.
The Imo State governor spoke after briefing President Tinubu on developments in the country and the activities of the Progressive Governors while the President was away on working leave.
He said the governors had taken their cue from the President’s recent broadcast and were shifting their focus from explaining the reforms to ensuring that Nigerians begin to experience their dividends.
He said the CNG initiative provided a clear example of how government reforms could translate into immediate economic relief for Nigerians, insisting that lower input costs should ultimately result in cheaper transportation for commuters.
Uzodimma also said the reforms had strengthened state finances, enabling governors to meet salary obligations while undertaking development projects.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, saying the governors were now focused on ensuring the reforms’ impact was sufficiently tangible for Nigerians to understand and support them.
