Varsity council names Fasina FUOYE new VC
A professor of Soil Sciences at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), who was Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration at the university, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has been named the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
He would become the third substantive Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, having succeeded the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Soremekun.
A statement issued by FUOYE’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Adeyinka Ademuyiwa, disclosed that the announcement was made after a two-day meeting of the Governing Council.
Quoting the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Yahuza, he said: “Wednesday, January 6, 2020 (yesterday) brings to an end a long and tortuous process of getting a new VC for FUOYE.”
He said the Pro-Chancellor pointed out that rancour and acrimony trailed the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor within and outside the campus, stressing that with the appointment, all animosities would end.
“The Chairman admonished all applicants to sheath their swords and join Fasina to build the university.
“Yahuza thanked Prof. Soremekun for finishing well, noting that he (Soremekun) passed through difficult situations during his tenure. But he is going out with confidence and your head high up, I congratulate you,” the statement reads.
He commended members of the Governing Council for their commitment, doggedness, and thoroughness.
“I appreciate you for your support and understanding,” Yahuza said after presenting Prof. Fasina his letter of appointment in the presence of council members and external consultant, Alhaji Sule Dauda.”
