Proffesor Jibrin Diso, a visually-impaired lecturer at the Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has won, in a raffle draw, an IVM lkenga 2020 model car, which lnnoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) Company donated to the Federal Government.

Speaking at the official presentation of the prize, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Ernest Umakhihe, explained that Jibrin emerged the winner of a raffle draw conducted at the 18th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development Planning (JPB/NCDP) meetings at Asaba, Delta State, between October 9 and 11, 2019.

Umakhihe explained that the journey began when the committee embarked on a familiarisation tour to the IVM Plant at Nnewi, Anambra State, to see the level of the company’s commitment to the nation’s economic diversification polity.

“As a show of appreciation and for the visit to the plant, the chairman magnanimously donated a brand new IVM lkenga 2020 model vehicle to the delegates.

“To determine who gets the car and for the purpose of transparency, the council used a raffle draw in which one of the delegates, Professor Jibrin Diso, emerged winner,” he said.

While congratulating the winner, the secretary appreciated the chairman of IVM, Innocent Chukwuma, for his support of national economic growth.

He reiterated the government’s determination to support and encourage local industries through the implementation of the Local Content policy by patronising Made-in-Nigeria products.

Umakhihe assured that “the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning identifies fully with the idea of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).”

The winner don said, “I also thank Allah for making me visually-impaired and then gave me the opportunity to turn my disability to ability. At the risk of sounding immodest, I must state that it is not easy for a visually-handicapped person to become a professor in Nigerian environment, with all its attendant encumbrances and other hamstring circumstances.”

He thanked Innoson for donating the car.
