Wakanow apologises to IGP, police over advertisement of travel escorts as police personnel

One of Nigeria’s renowned travel agencies, Wakanow Limited, has apologised to the inspector-general of police concerning a “mistake” in an advert stating that the company was to offer mobile police (MOPOL) services.

In the letter which was also directed to the Nigeria Police Force,(NPF) the company said it “sincerely regrets the inconveniences and embarrassment” the mistake may have caused the “reputable” Nigerian Police Force.

A flyer published 7th December 2021 indicated that the travel agency was going to make the provision of a Mobile Police Force alongside an advert was later brought down by the company the following day, according to the letter.

“Our attention was brought to a mistake on the publication which was orchestrated by the printers’ devil who misinterpreted the narrative of “well trained and equipped escort personnel” as “Mobile Police Officers (MOPOL)” and introduced the same in the flyer, which was not the intention contemplated by us”, the letter reads in part.

It added that “The said flyer was published in the afternoon of Tuesday 7th December 2021 and as soon as the attention of our management was drawn to the mistake, we immediately took down the flyer which was done in the afternoon of Wednesday 8th December 2021.”

Wakanow stated clearly that the company does “not provide and have never provided such a service.”

The Company assured that an error of such nature will not occur “again in the future.”
