The Commissioner of Police in charge of Nigerian Railway Command, Mr. Leye Oyebade, has vowed to do everything within the ambit of the law to stop rooftop train riders.

Oyebade, who made the declaration during his first lecture with his men moments after resuming as the new CP in charge of Railway Police Command, in Ebute-Metta, Lagos State, described the action of the rooftop train riders as, “romancing with death.” This, he said, would be one of his agenda as the new boss.

He said: “We are going to hit hard on rooftop train riders. We are going to ensure they stop riding on the roof of trains. It is an eyesore and too dangerous to the riders and other people.”

According to Oyebade, he would have to work with Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to achieve this. It would be recalled that NRC had made several concerted efforts to stop rooftop train riders, all to no avail. Oyebade, however, said that such dangerous rides would stop under his watch.

Speaking further on his agenda, Oyebade noted that he would introduce the Eminent People’s Forum, where important people in the community would furnish police with ideas of how to move the command forward.
