As Nigeria continues to grapple with rising youth unemployment, fintech startup Faveremit is charting a new path by building its workforce entirely from local talent.

The company, founded by Gabriel Olusola, is not only reshaping digital finance through its innovative services but also creating meaningful job opportunities for young Nigerians.

“Faveremit was built in Nigeria, by Nigerians, for Nigerians,” Olusola said during a recent tech conference in Abuja. “It’s not just about the technology; it’s about giving young people a platform where their skills can shine, their ideas can grow, and their work can have real impact.”

Unlike many startups that outsource key roles abroad, Faveremit deliberately recruits and trains professionals from Nigeria’s major tech hubs—including Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. The team includes UI/UX designers, software developers, customer support agents, and compliance officers—all under the age of 35.

One notable example is a team member who began as a freelancer and now leads a product development unit, reflecting the company’s “growth from within” philosophy.

Faveremit’s app addresses key financial pain points in the Nigerian market, offering instant gift card conversions, virtual dollar cards for international transactions, and seamless username-based money transfers. Olusola explained that these features were developed based on feedback from everyday users who often experience delays and inefficiencies in traditional digital payment systems.

“Young Nigerians don’t lack talent,” he said. “They lack platforms that believe in them. Faveremit is proof that when given a chance, we can build world-class solutions right here at home.”

With plans to expand into new markets and introduce business-oriented tools, Faveremit aims to scale both its services and workforce—offering a compelling model for how Nigerian tech startups can drive employment while solving real economic challenges.
