
No fewer than 50 students of Wesley Schools (l & 2) for Hearing Impaired, Surulere, Lagos, recently joined stakeholders and teachers to sensitise the public on their potential. The event was also to mark the United Nations International Day of Sign Languages in Lagos.
The Principal, Mrs. Elizabeth Aderonke Ojemola, said the group walk was to encourage the public to bring their wards with hearing disability to our special schools. The walk started from the schools’ premises to Surulere Local Council.
She said the government had provided educational and vocational facilities to carter for the total and wellbeing of these special students to meet the global trends.
She appealed to parents and caregivers not to hide, neglect these special kids, but to accept them with love and give them quality education so that they could add their quota to nation-building.
According to her, Lagos State Government has provided free education for students with hearing impairment with qualify and professional teachers, adding that the school also offers free training for their parents.
Alhaja Adetoro Baiyewu, Special Adviser on Education, representing Chairman Council, Sulaimon Yusuf Bamidele, said: “Surulere is home for all physically-challenged. We always address their needs and yearnings as part of our grassroots responsibility.
The Chairman said he is always ready to give his support to make life easier for all in Surulere Local Government council’.
Earlier, Babatunde Awoyelu, Education Secretary, Surulere LGEA joined in the group walk, he said he will continue to support the special schools and deaf community to boost the economy and society
