A 27-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly attacking and killing his mother in-law in the bush has confessed to local vigilante group why he committed the crime.
The young man known as Yayu Musa, who fled to neighbouring village after the incidence but was traced and arrested, said he committed the crime because his mother in-law has been threatening to deprived him of marrying her daughter Umi Idris.
The suspect whose confessional statement was recorded in video said, “I was angered into killing my mother in-law because she wanted to deprived me from marrying her daughter”.
He said, “The woman (victim) gave me her daughter Umi Idris to marry, and I have spent all my hard earned cash in caring for my wife. But my mother in-law insisted that she will give my wife to another man to marry simply because my wife have difficulty to become pregnant. And I have spent so much money to ensure my wife conceived to no avail.
“At a point I had to sell my motorcycle and made serious financial commitment in seeking medical solutions for my wife to get pregnant. But in spite of all that I did, my mother in-law kept telling me I am not man enough to marry her daughter, and that she will give my wife to any other capable man to marry.
“So that was why I got angry, and I love my wife, I don’t want to see her marry another person while I’m still alive.”
The incidence, according to source took place in Olla community of Omala local government in Kogi last Friday, July 25, at about 8:00am.
A source from the community revealed that the suspect called Yayu Musa carefully trailed his mother in-law, a 50-year-old woman, Atayi Abdul to her farm, attacked her with matchete.
A video recorded by the local vigilante who discovered the body of the victim shows that the assailant massacred his mother in-law after killing her in cold blood.
The local vigilante group launched a man hunt of the suspected killer and eventually caught him from neighbouring community where he ran to hide after committing the crime.
