Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has implored Christian’s to collaborate with government to end the menace of cultism. He made the appeal when His Eminence, Baba Aladura, Dr David Bob-Manuel, Moses Orimolade IX and Prelate of The Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim Worldwide visited him at the Government House Port Harcourt yesterday.

Wike, who assured the Christian community that his administration would continue to support them because Rivers is a Christian State, urged them to support the fight against cultism.

The governor stressed that there is no gain in youths becoming cultists and appealed to the Church to work with the Rivers State Government to discourage cultism. “There’s no gain in joining cult groups; cultism does not pay. We need to continue talking to our youths on the need to shun cultism,” he said.

Wike congratulated the Baba Aladura on his emergence as the leader of Cherubim and Seraphim Worldwide, adding that Rivers people are proud of him.He, however, regretted the level of disunity among Christian denominations, saying that it is hindering the expansion of the Church.

Meanwhile, the Vanguard of Ogoni Nation leader, Reuben Favour, has appealed to Governor Wike to send the State anti crime crack squad code name Operation Sting to quell the on going cult violence in Ogoni, which has claimed over 10 lives and witnessed destruction of properties, including the residence of the President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, Legboris Pyagbara this week.
Favour blamed the incessant security breach by cult groups in Khana Local Government to the existence of only one police station in Bori.

“Ogoni, especially Bori, is too large to have one Police station. We need at least four police stations in Khana Local Government Area. We have been told that in Rivers State, we have operation sting, presently in Ogoni we have not seen the presence of Operation Sting and things are going out of hand,” he said.

He urged Governor Wike to send Operation Sting to Ogoniland so that there will be peace in the area.Favour also appealed to warring cult groups to sheath their sword because there is no way meaningful development can happen in a place where there is rancour.
