Winning Is Everything, Says Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti insists Chelsea will turn their back on a goal feast to ensure they earn three points and win the Premier League title for the first time since 2006.

But for midfielder Florent Malouda, it would be the biggest disappointment of his career if Chelsea failed to win the Premier League title.

A Chelsea win over Wigan at Stamford Bridge on today will deliver the crown in Ancelotti’s debut season at the club and set them up for a league and FA Cup double.

Chelsea hammered Stoke 7-0 in their last home game and have smashed 95 goals so far this season.

But Ancelotti vows three points are more important than a century of goals and adds it will be a “tragedy” for the club if the Blues fall at the final hurdle.

“It’s our aim to win,” said Ancelotti. “We did a fantastic job but we’ve still got one game to go. We have to do our best, have the same behaviour in the last game.

“Until now, we’ve deserved to stay at the top of the list. It would be a tragedy if we lost the last game after 10 months of a good, fantastic job. Every day. It would be a tragedy, a disaster.

“Wigan are a good team and have a lot of skill up front. They are quick and created a lot of difficulties against us. I remember that well.

“We have to pay attention because nothing is decided. If you don’t prepare this game well before, if there are problems for us during the game we will not be able to resolve them. We have to be ready.

A draw or defeat would almost certainly hand the crown to reigning champions Manchester United.

The 29-year-old Frenchman, who has just been voted Blues’ player of the year by his team-mates, is confident his side will not slip up at home to Wigan.

“Nobody here even thinks about anything other than a victory. To fail would be a disaster,” he said in the Daily Mirror.

“For me, it would be the worst blow in my career, but with our fans at Stamford Bridge behind us we believe that’s impossible.

“If you analyse the numbers and statistics in our season, then Chelsea deserve to be champions and yet we know we must still win on Sunday (today) to confirm our achievement.

“We will forget the nerves and we know we will have to play with our heads and be patient. I am totally convinced we will be champions.”
