With ‘Establish Her’, Women encouraged to embrace self-worth

LASUTH

Women have been urged to focus on building their identity and boost their confidence. With the bias and societal limitations, they face as females, they are also encouraged to explore their self-worth and add to development of society.

This charge was made at a one-day seminar titled, ‘Establish Her’ organised by the Christian Medical and Dental Association of Nigeria (CMDA Nigeria Students), Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Chapter.

The seminar which served as a platform for young women to explore potential gave a renewed sense of empowerment among attendees, who were encouraged to actively participate in shaping a more inclusive and equitable society.

With discussions on faith, self-worth, and societal expectations, the seminar inspired young women to stand for themselves, reaffirming that they have the strength and resilience to overcome challenges and thrive.

CMDA LASUTH coordinator, Soosu Sewanu, said, “this conference is about changing the mindset of women and reminding them that God is their first love, not man.” She noted that many women mistakenly believe that their self-worth is tied to relationships, but the event aims to shift this thinking towards self-confidence and self-worth.

According to her, one of the main goals of “Establish Her” is to dispel the idea that men should always be the first choice in opportunities and leadership. “What men can do, women can do as well—and even better.

A speaker at the event, Oluwafisayo Aigbogun focused on how societal biases often undermine women, pushing them into feeling inferior. “Society sometimes makes women feel lesser, but this conference is here to speak to women directly, helping them rediscover their identity in Christ. God treats us equally, without gender bias.”

She called on organisations that tackle gender inequality to take more action in addressing these biases, especially in areas like education and employment.

Aigbogun further explained that the seminar aimed to create a space where women could confront societal pressures and internal challenges that many keep to themselves. “There are a lot of challenges women face in today’s society. I urge ladies to speak up and not feel inferior simply because they are women, they should break free from self-doubt and realise their potential.”
