Women seek funds to erect N112m skills acquisition centre in Abia

Women Association of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAUWA), is planning to build a N122 million skills acquisition centre in Abia State.

Speaking at the fund-raising ceremony, the President and wife of the Vice Chancellor, Mrs. Bertha Otunta, said the project would empower the womenfolk in the country.

“ Our vision is to build a N112 million ultra -modern skills acquisition centre that will empower girls and women in the country.”

Two former Abia State governors, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Theodore Orji demonstrated their support for the female gender empowerment project. They stressed the need for proper upbringing, training and empowerment of women.

Orji Uzor Kalu, who was represented by his younger brother, Mascot Uzor Kalu donated N2 million while Senator Orji, was represented by his former Lands Commissioner, Chief Longman Nwachukwu. He donated N500, 000.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Francis Otunta, represented by his Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof Joy Nwabueze lauded the women for embarking on such a laudable project.
