Workers in Bayelsa State have expressed mixed feelings over the 50 per cent May salary paid them just as state government has promised to offset the backlog as soon as finances are available.

The state  Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Jonathan Obuebite, after the 59th State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, ‎said the payment was in line with the agreement government had with Labour.

“Council also reviewed the salary payment of civil servants and looked at the compliance of most of the ministries, as a result of the new measures put in place for the payment of salaries.

“We want to proudly tell Bayelsans that all civil servants as at today (Wednesday) have been paid their salaries that we agreed with labour. And, we want to appreciate labour for the patience and understanding they have shown to the government, because, we believe we owe them. A labourer deserves his wage and the government is mindful of that,” he added

In a related development, the Commissioner for Local Government Administration, Mrs. Agatha Goma, said council pensioners had been verified, assuring that primary school teachers and pensioners would receive their entitlements next week.
