Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed has assured workers of improved welfare. Stressing that the wellbeing of workers is paramount to the administration, Ahmed said he would continue to uphold this in view of their invaluable contributions to the development of the state.

The governor, in a May Day message yesterday in Ilorin said the administration appreciates the cooperation, dedication and loyalty of workers and pledged to continue to reciprocate by enhancing their welfare and creating conducive atmosphere for better performance.

Ahmed observed that the global economic recession has taken its toll on the national economy with consequent impact on salaries and pensions at the local council level. He, however, emphasized that his administration would not shirk its responsibility to workers in the state.

Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to partner with the state government in the fight against corruption.

The governor spoke in Jos at the Workers’ Day celebration with the theme: “Labour Relations in Economic Recession: An Appraisal.” He charged public workers to reciprocate the government’s goodwill with a greater commitment to duty and discipline, imploring them to check corrupt practices in work places.

“The fight against corruption does not lie only with the executive, but with all civil servants as the essential strata of the bureaucratic value chain of governance. You cannot afford to be left out in the collective fight to rid our country of this canker worm that has made our common wealth the private estate of a corrupt few,” he said.

Lalong also said the administration has implemented the new medical salary scale; the harmonisation of pensions; release of promotions and the correction of anomalies in promotions and placements among others.
