UAE, Angola pledge to boost bilateral ties across key sectors

United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Angolan President João Manuel Lourenço have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, with a focus on economic growth, investment, and development across Africa.

The two leaders met in Luanda during Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s state visit to Angola, where they discussed opportunities for collaboration in energy, technology, agriculture, food security, and logistics. President Lourenço welcomed the Emirati leader, describing the visit as significant for strengthening ties between the two nations.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed congratulated Angola on the 50th anniversary of its independence and emphasised the UAE’s commitment to expanding relations in investment and development-focused areas. “The UAE is keen to support both countries’ aspirations for development and is committed to working with Angola to encourage investment in future-focused sectors,” he said, underlining the importance of strategic partnerships to drive growth and prosperity.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues, highlighting the importance of concerted efforts towards global stability. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed praised Angola’s leadership of the African Union, noting its potential to advance peace and reconciliation across the continent.

President Lourenço described the UAE president’s visit as historic and stressed the longstanding friendship between the two countries. He highlighted the contribution of Emirati companies to Angola’s economy and noted that recently signed agreements and memoranda of understanding would enhance cooperation in renewable energy, logistics, agriculture, and other sectors, creating opportunities for Angolan youths.

The UAE delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; and Adviser to the UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan. The Angolan delegation included several ministers and senior officials.

The visit signals a renewed focus on Pan-African growth and underscores both nations’ shared vision for sustainable development, investment, and regional stability.
