The father of the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Momohsani Ododo, who passed away Monday evening, has been laid to rest Tuesday afternoon in his home, Upogoro, Okene, in the Okene Local Government Area of the state.
The funeral was performed in accordance with Islamic laws and witnessed massive attendance by dignitaries from far and near.
Chief Imam of Okene Central Mosque, Alhaji Salihu Abere, who led other top Islamic clerics, offered prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
The Guardian reported that the solemn occasion was also attended by the Ohinoyi of Egbiraland, His Royal Majesty Dr. Mohammed Tijani Anaje, as well as some members of the state’s traditional council, including Governor Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, and top government officials.
The Guardian reported that the late Alhaji Momohsani Ododo died at the age of 83.
In a condolence message by the National Publicity Secretary of All Progressive Congress (APC) Felix Morka, CON, the party said, “With the passing of this highly respected community leader, the Upogoro community in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi state, and indeed, the entire Ebira nation have lost a truly illustrious son who has left indelible footprints on sands of time.
“The late patriarch of the Ododo family lived a fulfilled life that touched the lives and hearts of many within and outside his family and community.
“The amiable and exemplary character of Governor Ododo is a clear testament to the wholesome nurturing and mentoring the late Alhaji Ododo bequeathed to his son and other children.
“We pray Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant the late Alhaji Ododo Al-Jannah Firdaus, and comfort the family he has left behind at this difficult time”
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Media to the governor, Ismaila Isah, has commiserated with his principal over the death of his beloved father.
In a statement in Lokoja on Tuesday, Isah described the deceased as a man whose life embodied humility, piety and dedication to the well-being of others.
He noted that his wisdom and quiet strength shaped generations and found full expression in the leadership qualities of his son, Governor Ododo.
“Though his passing leaves a deep void, we draw comfort from the rich, devoted and honourable life he lived and the enduring values he instilled in his family and community,” the governor’s aide said.
Isah prayed that Almighty Allah showers the deceased with mercy, overlooks his shortcomings, and grants him a place in Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for the governor and his entire family to find strength, peace, and courage at this difficult time.
